Anna (Go To Him)

Lennon and McCartney in one of their recording session
The third song in The Beatles début album, Anna (Go To Him) is a song written and originally performed by Arthur Alexander, an American country soul singer. A favourite of John Lennon, Anna (Go To Him) became part of The Beatles early live performances. They subsequently recorded Anna and included it in their first album.
Original singer of Anna, Arthur Alexander
Even though the song was not theirs, The Beatles manage to make it their own song, especially with the rough, raspy voice of Lennon on lead vocals. Lennon was having a bad cold on the day of recording and as Please Please Me was recorded in one day, this was evident inmost songs especially in Twist and Shout
Richie Unterberger, a critic for Allmusic has this to say about The Beatles version of Anna:
Ringo Starr on Drums
"Ringo Starr faithfully [replicates] the unusual drum rhythm and high-hat crunches. Lennon's vocal, however, added a tortured pain not present in Alexander's model, particularly when he wailed in his upper register at the conclusion of the bridges. The Beatles' backup harmony vocals, in addition, were superb, and more effective [than on Alexander's version]"

Hope you enjoy the song the way I have enjoyed it!!!
